So, yesterday I decided to do the Noland Trail. It’s a really hilly trail in Newport News. Great scenery, peaceful, and not too crowded, but just enough so you feel comfortable. The trail is 5 miles, with half mile markers so you know how far you’ve gone. I went around once, did my 5 miles and still felt pretty good. I figured, why not go again? Yes, I ended up doing 10 miles yesterday! It was actually pretty great! Sure I was tired and sore afterward (I was cursing those hills around mile 8.5!) but it was a great accomplishment. The farthest I’ve ever gone.
It took me 3 hours and 5 minutes, averaging out to an 18 minute mile. Well, actually 17.5 minute mile. I took a 10 minute break around mile 8. Which normally I would complain about, but considering the hills and it being the farthest I’ve gone, it’s pretty good for me!
If I can do that once a week, I should have no problem getting ready for the Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon in October. I need to work on my time, definitely. With an 18 minute mile, I could finish, no problem, but I want to be able to do more than finish. And I know, it being my first half marathon, all that should matter is finishing. And I will be happy with that. But I set a goal for 3 hours and 45 minutes, and I would love to beat that goal.
Now, I know losing weight will help me with that (less to carry) and wouldn’t you know, after all that yesterday, I woke up this morning and weighed in (even though it’s not my normal weigh in day…I was curious!). I had lost 4 pounds since Monday! I’ve been eating better, too, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it, but wow. Definitely makes me want to push myself even more!
I’m not sure how I’m going to do things with Lola getting out of school next week. I should be able to add the kids club onto my membership temporarily at the gym so she can go there while I work out. And maybe during the times that I want to go on the trail, I can have her stay with my aunt or someone. I just need to keep this up. I can’t stop working hard.
I’m actually happy right now. Despite a few recent things…I’m happy.
